The Ryan Foundation supports the Spirit Catholic Radio Network
The Ryan Foundation recently donated $36,000 to VSS Catholic Communications Inc. in March 2020.
VSS Catholic Communications operates the Spirit Catholic Radio Network (KVSS), which is a listener-supported 501(c)(3) Catholic radio station with studio locations in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. Their network broadcasts throughout Nebraska and parts of western Iowa. Spirit Catholic Radio produces local programming, such as Spirit Mornings, the local Mass and Rosary. The network has also broadcast everything from national network programs to local events such as live press conferences, priestly ordinations, ArchOmaha Unite, Eucharistic Congress, church dedications, the Rosary Bowl in Lincoln, Lenten fish fry’s and Catholic high school Heartland Tours as well as high school football and basketball games.
The Spirit Catholic Radio Network was a favorite of Eileen Ryan. She would regularly tune in to pray the rosary and listen to other programming. When she moved to West Omaha, she began having trouble getting a proper signal from her favorite station, so she contacted the organization to offer help in expanding their reach. Dr. and Mrs. Ryan shared a belief in the values and teachings of the Catholic Church and always gave back to those Catholic organizations that helped them or that needed their help. The Ryan Foundation donated over $28,000 to VSS Catholic Communications from 2003-2010.
A portion of the donation will be utilized to fund the establishment of a full power FM station in Valentine Nebraska. The remainder of the donation will go towards an endowment established to replace old radio transmitters that were installed between 2005 and 2008.
