The Ryan Foundation continues support for Humility Homes and Services, Inc.
The Ryan Foundation recently committed to a donation of $500,000 to Humility Homes and Services, Inc. (HHSI) in October 2021.
In 1990, HHSI was created in response to an affordable housing crisis in Davenport Iowa, by the sisters of the Congregation of Humility of Mary. The organization initially provided single mothers with young children with affordable housing and supportive services. Today, HHSI reaches more than 1,400 individuals with a continuum of services – from street outreach and emergency shelter to rapid rehousing and supportive housing. The organization is the provider of the most comprehensive emergency shelter and supportive housing services for single adults, families, veterans, and persons with disabilities in the Greater Quad Cities area.
Sister Miriam, an affiliate of the congregation Humility of Mary, was a good friend of Dr. Ryan as they grew up together in Corning, Iowa. Dr. Ryan loved his hometown and he made it a priority to go to class reunions and stay connected. These connections led Dr. Ryan to make sure that HHSI received support from the Ryan Foundation. The Ryan Foundation donated $420,000 to HHSI in 2020, and over $135,000 from 2003 to 2012.
The purpose of this donation is to provide funding for the Humility Homes and Services, Inc. (HHSI) initiative to acquire additional affordable housing units in the Quad City area. This donation will help fund the program in lockstep with other funding partners, with the goal of acquiring sixty affordable housing units for the organization by the end of 2023. The total cost of this initiative is expected to be approximately $4.15 million.
