The Ryan Foundation donates to the New Cassel Foundation
The Ryan Foundation recently donated $500,000 to the New Cassel Foundation in March 2020.
The New Cassel Foundation benefits the New Cassel Retirement Home, which is both a retirement home and licensed assisted living center in Omaha that encourages full living by providing services and activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. The mission of New Cassel is to continue the healing ministry of Jesus, while curating a caring community committed to providing an array of quality services. New Cassel believes in promoting core values of respect, compassion, responsiveness, and hospitality to all that cross paths with the organization.
Eileen and Wayne Ryan were benefactors of the New Cassel Foundation during their lives. New Cassel is sponsored by the School Sisters of St. Francis, a group of Sacred Heart nuns. Eileen had attended a Sacred Heart College and was always a generous donor to Sacred Heart schools. It was a trip to visit their beloved friend Sr. Marie Gross-Rhode at New Cassel where Eileen saw a need for a proper “restaurant” for the residents. Her vision was for a dining area in which residents could be seated, given a menu and waited on without having to manage wheelchairs, canes or other challenges. Eileen and Wayne Ryan provided a $250,000 gift to New Cassel for the establishment of the Ryan Dining Room in 2011.
Funds from the donation will be used to renovate and upgrade certain portions of the existing Ryan Dining Room, install an energy efficient HVAC system, and provide other necessary improvements to the facility.
